Playing a poker machine at a venue is 23%, down from 25% in December 2009, and betting is 14%, down from 16%. Jane Ianniello, Roy Morgan Research International Director of Tourism, Travel & Leisure, says:

“Over the past 12 months participation has continued to decline for most forms of gambling.  Participation in lotteries was temporarily boosted in 2008 and 2009 with record jackpots for Oz Lotto, but has since declined sharply. Of course not all gambling venues are trending down – the profile of their customer base is an important determinant of their success.

“Although Internet betting has increased in popularity with 3% betting via the Internet, this has not offset the steep decline in other betting channels such as TAB outlets and on course betting.”
