Both domestic and overseas holiday intention is up. Intention to stay in Australia on the next holiday in the next 12 months is 56.9% in the May 2010 quarter, up from 56.1% in the May 2009 quarter. Source: Roy Morgan Single Source (March - May 2008 n= 5,307, March – May 2009 n= 4,920 and March – May 2010 n= 5,032). A small percentage can’t say whether their next trip will be overseas or domestic.

Jane Ianniello, Roy Morgan Research International Director of Tourism, Travel & Leisure, says:

“Intention to take a domestic holiday has shown a slight increase over the past few years after a steady decline from early 2004 to mid 2008. It will be interesting to see whether Tourism Australia’s current campaign There’s Nothing Like Australia will add momentum to this renewed interest in domestic holidays and convert to an increase in domestic visitor numbers.”
