On further analysis cinema attendees are 25% more likely to be aged between 14 and 29 years old.
Cinema attendees are active consumers of entertainment; they are more likely than the average Australian to have attended a rock/pop concert, live theatre, ballet/opera, an art gallery, museum or antique exhibition.
They are also more likely than average to have gone to a BYO restaurant, a night club, to have attended professional sports events and have rented a DVD.
William Burlace, Director, Media Services, Roy Morgan Research, says:
“Avatar set new benchmarks for cinema attendance with almost a quarter of all Australians viewing this movie at the cinema. It was a fantastic boost to the industry and highlights the continued strength of this media.
“Avatar attracted almost twice as many attendees as the second most popular movie “Australia” and clearly deserves its ranking as the number one box office earner of all time.
“Australians love their leisure activities and cinema attendees take this to another level, being over represented in almost all leisure activities.
“Of course the choice an individual makes about which movie to see tells us a lot about the person and the Roy Morgan data provides a rich source of exploration for those wanting know who watches what at the cinema.”
