Holiday Intention Marginally Up in April 2010 Quarter

In the latest Roy Morgan Research Single Source data for the April 2010 quarter, 68.9%, an estimated 12.4 million Australians 14 years or older, intend to take at least one holiday in the next 12 months, up marginally on the April 2009 quarter result of 68.3% (12.0 million) and substantially up on the April 2008 quarter (67.8%).
 

Both domestic and overseas holiday intention is marginally up. Intention to stay in Australia on the next holiday in the next 12 months is 56.4% in the April 2010 quarter, up from 56.1% in the April 2009 quarter. Intention to go overseas on the next holiday in the next 12 months is 8.1% in the April 2010 quarter, up from 7.7% in the April 2009 quarter  (a small percentage can’t say whether their next trip will be overseas or domestic).

The good news for the Australian tourism industry is that intention has increased for domestic holidays which may herald a recovery of the languishing domestic market.”
