Intention to take a holiday up in March Quarter 2010

For the March quarter 2010 an estimated 70.7% (12.7 million) Australians 14 years or older intend to take at least one holiday in the next 12 months, up on the March quarter 2009 result of 68.5% (12.1 million) according to the Roy Morgan Holiday Leading Indicators Report.
 

Both domestic and overseas holiday intention is up. Intention to stay in Australia on the next holiday in the next 12 months is 57.7% in the March 2010 quarter, up from 56.8% in the March 2009 quarter. Intention to go overseas on the next holiday in the next 12 months is 8.5% in the March 2010 quarter; up from 7.0% in the March 2009 quarter^ (a small percentage can’t say whether their next trip will be overseas or domestic).

Jane Ianniello, Roy Morgan Research International Director of Tourism, Travel & Leisure, says:

“With increasing consumer confidence more Australians are intending to take a holiday in the next 12 months. The good news for the Australian tourism industry is that intention has increased for domestic holidays which may herald a recovery of the languishing domestic market.”
