Roy Morgan Research collects detailed information on Young Australians, aged 6-13 years. For children in Australia, new technology is a way of life. The main reason of owning a mobile is to stay in contact with family, and to SMS. This report provides insight into Young Australians’ uptake of mobile phones. It looks at the origin of their mobile phone, their reason for owning a mobile, SMS activity, pre paid phone uptake and attitudes toward mobile phones. Results are based on the 12 months to June 2009 (n = 3,359) versus the 12 months to June 2011 (n = 3,283). This report encapsulated only a fraction of the richness of the data available.
